some things are better left unsaid. for the remainder of things, better said outright, here's a warm and comfy spot. a place where they can roll off the tongue and drift off the fingers. you know what has two thumbs, rides everyday, and fancies himself a bit of anecdotenist? this guy.
today was no exception.
here I had thought I might go and see if there was any work at the hill! when all of a sudden, I had three great friends in town..
that was yesterday, and I had just worked 5.5 hrs in the amazing high sierra @ Mammoth Mountain. I thought to myself: "boy, I sense some of the others are burnt out. maybe they'll back-line and I can put in another 5 and a half hour effort. make me some coin for that rainy day." most of the instructors were on day 15 or so. in a row. such are the holidays...
when all of a sudden!!
and when I told them my plan, they laughed in my face and said "yeah right, yer coming with us!"

sure enough, we met up at stellar brew for some sustenance the very next morning, about 8:45ish. I went for the yerba mate with honey and half a lemon, thouroughly squoze.
the mate and a half had me zingin' right off the bat, really setting the tone for the day.

~~~back-story aside~~~ see, I never had ridden an opening day at any resort (that I could remember through these 18+ years of sliding up hill, both ways) and I decided early on that I would like to lace up everyday and take at least two runs everyday for the whole season, rain or shine, mammoth, tahoe, or any other spot that presents itself on our way to closing day here in mammoth, july the 4thish~~~
anyhow picking up where we left off, sortof; we hop on chair16/canyonexpress and go for two? half pipe runs right away with a little unbound south variety. I dip into the trees and find some real milky leftovers here and there. here we catch up with another two and send it towards drop ten, hang a left through those trees, end up at stump.
am I boring you?
anyhow, we're all fist-pumping, high-fiving, good-gaming, jamming out to our tunes in our music players and just straight getting after it. cornice from mccoy, and we slide to 23, the coolest ride to the top of almost any place I've sat. and the chair approaching that I get to sit on and ride to the top?

I turn to my four-some posse with eyes as big as bicentennial silver dollars and yell through my bandit, "holy shift!! it's my 111th day"

so I am just filled to the brim with stoke at this point... I'm taking phonetos and singin' out loud; I'm all like, "wave to the camera!!" getting a snapshot of the two chairs behind mine, each carrying two classy broads.
oh yeah, did I not mention that?
it's me a four of the sweetest birds I know schralping the darsh out of the pitch, know m sayin'?
and they are just ripping the paper off the place.
how fun WAS that, huh? yeah, ladies, I'm typing to you!
right
we get to the top, I play the camerman for about 13 shots; minarets, posies, smiles.
one of the girls gets curious towards the wipeout chutes and I watch her make a few turns. looks silky chalk and I am in.
that's when, appropriately enough given the name of the session, I see a feller sliding not quite as fast as one of his skis, which is 30 feet in front of him and not about to stop. I judge the trajectory and figure I can do this. I chase it down in no time at all and shove it in the snow, throw a two-piece peace sign, and commence with the excite.
I follow her traverse to scotty's and that is way groomed and nearly empty of people and fa-ast.
how do you think I got this benjamin pile? my caviar pool? (it's from a commercial with that asian dude from the hangover) freaky like my lady pyramid!! that still makes me chuckle.
I think we parked it for a few at this point. forest trail laps. under thunderboundexpress/chair6 we're busy preparing for an event. the US snowboarding grand prix and all of its scaffolding, pros, cameras, concerts, parties, and revelry are coming to town!!!
and for once it looks as if the weather will cooperate for a truly awesome spectacle of athleticism and focus. these mofo's can

my boy tells me, "hey yeah I got sprayed by ____ _____ earlier today. dick. I wonder if he's got like 3 leather jackets that he rotates..."~~~
so we're hot-lapping the park, and just when we are about to flee the scene and return to the buttery top of the mammoth via chair1/broadwayexpress, homie side-slips up to us. he's holding himself in a recovery embrace and he's powdered like a donut. nobody saw the crash. we go our separate ways. more on him later!
I don't remember what happens next sometimes, and I think some of the story might be out of order.
what a funkin epic day, overall.
dave's was had somewhere in there. and it was ridiculous. we finished our day with it as a matter of fact.
we're really jumping around now! all pun intended, for we are now going for the two half-pipe in one run lap, sprinkled with boxes, jumps, rails, and pow stashes.
there's a super fun boarder-cross inspired snake run through the trees under chair 20 that is fully worth looking in to. at this point we are at chair seven for at least on more lap
when all of a sudden!!!
hey, it's the powdered donut and his lady friend! he's ok! highfives, goodgames, fistpumps
the ladies mention that they are shaking with hunger so we dip into canyonlodge/warminghut2
lunch time! and it's 2 now?
wow, we been getting AFTER it.
on the menu?
grill cheese, FF, enormous power ades, cookie for them, pb n J, sunchips, and a super-roadmocha for me. that's a 1/2coffee 1/2 hot cocoa with a shot of espresso. thanks edge&wedge!
so then we rode til 4:05, stopping at wooly's snow cave along the way.
